clock, southern Germany, 18th century, black framed wooden case, profiled, (formerly
with feet), glass door front and behind, clock flanked by the apostles Peter and
Paul, crowning by Moses with the commandment tablets, some brass plaques with some
Latin inscriptions, gold-plated dial using repoussoir technique, pewter dial ring
with pendulum and date window (switches on), dial in the middle rooster, with verge
clockwork this signed: "John Christophorus Strigelius London" (lit. Loomes, P.747),
escapement arranged above the movement, rigid pendulum, bulges on the side of the
case for pendulum deflection, starts, height approx. 60cm, parts of the clock have
been supplemented, condition of movement 2-3 (= good condition with minor flaws),
housing 3, rare
