Painter probably from the retinue of the Master of the Vienna Scottish Altarpiece, c. 1480- 1500, Christ before Pilate, panel probably from a winged altarpiece, oil on wood, verso inscribed ". ..von Kulmbach" in reference to Hans von Kulmbach (1480-1522), 75x47 cm, frame 88x60 cm; with accompanying written classification by the former deputy director of the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, Dr. Bruno Bushart, from 1964: Bushart places the work in Austria, in the Vienna circle of the late 15th century. He characterizes the work as a traditional -popular artistic expression in the spirit of the late Gothic; Provenance: Private collection Baden-Württemberg; Private collection Konrad Wittwer, Stuttgart, acquired in the early 1960s on the art market; from 1959 private collection of Richard Lohse (restorer at the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart); 1956 Galerie Alexander Gebhardt, Munich (copy of the exhibition catalog 1st German Art and Antiques Fair Munich)
