Attribution: Abram Efimovich Archipov, 1862- 1930 Moscow, pair of exuberant women
in a winter village setting, emphasizing the colorful rural Russian traditional costumes
against the blue and brown evening scenery, lower left symbolically signed and dated
1904, illegible suffix, oil/canvas, old canvas damage restored, selectively retouched,
approx. 96x110cm, frame 112x126cm, Archipov created with his works evidence of everyday
rural life in Russia at the end of the 19th century. Women, their traditional costumes
and traditional character traits such as cheerfulness, hard work and beauty were
presented under the picturesque challenges of the turn of the century.
