Messel, Treasuresof Prehistoric Times, Gabriele Gruber, NorbertMicklich, p. 66 ff, from an old fossil collection, find from 1985, museum; The MesselPit has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, one of only three sites in the world; the exact origin of the turtles is currently somewhat controversial, but the earliest forms lived in the Upper Triassic, around 210 million years ago
