Walter Spies, 1895 Moskau -1942, 2 watercolors, # "Arachnei - Arachneida #" 1925
and # "Africanus phalangoid #" 1925, were created during the stay on Java/Bali, below,
signed and dated, watermark concordia, paper browned and slight stained, 40x27 cm
each; Spies grew up as the son of a diplomat in Russia. From 1918 in Germany he maintained
friendships with Oskar Kokoschka and Otto Dix and worked at the theater and silent
film. In the 1920s/30s, Spies stayed in Java and Bali in various ways and maintained
a kind of insular-cultural center for prominent Europeantravelers |
