Southern German upright piano, probably Christian Gaiser, Rastatt, around 1818, corpus
Walnut veneer, 4 squared feet,3 knee levers: damper release, moderator and bassoon,
original dustboard walnut, fragmentary Manufacturer's label: "Instrumentenmacher
in Rastatt empfiehlt sich in Verfertigung von Flügeln (?) und Pianofortes, welche
den Wiener Instrumenten nicht nachstehen...in Gitarren zu billigsten...liche Preisen".
With one extraordinary beautiful worked Vienna mechanic, in a wooden case; the hammers
are covered in leather in keeping with the period of its manufacture; the keyboard
range is 5½ octaves; the table piano is largely in its original condition; there
are no signs of any attempt to make it playable; Christian Gaiser is in the Literature
active between 1800-1825. One of his instruments was in the Colt-Collection in Bethersden,
Kent, England, one additional piano around 1830 has been located in an southern German
