Vertical sundial, as a pendant clock, Bohemia around 1780/1820, brass, in the so-called
"baroque coat of arms shape", engraved on both sides, rotatable month hand on the
front with folding gnomon and month bands (lat.), on the back with hour division
and signature: "F. Zappeck (Prague)", numbers with recessed black lacquer, height
approx. 6cm, (almost identical object, with the same Signature in Vienna Museum and
Lit. Radko Kynol, Lexicon of Clocks, p. 34) left old - uncleaned, age- related signs
of wear - To determine the time, the hand is set to the month (Latin), the gnomon
on the hand is completely folded over (270 degrees) and shows the time on the other
side with its shadow on the hour line. |
